My classroom goal is to have each of my student actively engaged when I am teaching. One way to achieve this is with the on-line program Nearpod. This program allows me to present information to all the students simultaneously and each student can respond, which creates a totally engaging classroom for all students. This program allows me to differentiate instruction for each student and give me immediate feedback on his or her understanding.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 587

This year Nearpod has impacted all of my students during my instruction.  While utilizing Nearpod activities in my classroom all of the students were engaged in the learning activity.  The kindergarten students interacted with lessons about shapes, letters and numbers.  I shared lessons about digital footprints with many grade levels, by the end of the lesson students were aware that what they share on the internet will follow them around for their entire lives, a very valuable lesson to learn at a young age.  The students were able to learn about the importance of Copyright and plagairism through nearpod, a tweet can be found at https://twitter.com/TechMes/status/1232024814061268993/photo/1

In addition to providing great lessons and providing me with the ability to create lessons, I received detailed reports on the students responses to questions, polls, drawing activities.  The student’s responses were saved so that I could view all answers later, this allowed me to analyze the results and reteach concepts that were unclear.

Perhaps the best part about Nearpod is, the students loved utilizing Nearpod.  Every student was able to share their answers with me, and I could share their responses with their classmates through using this application.   Nearpod was a hit once again in my classroom due to the 100% engagement and it is fun!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My classroom goal is to have each of my student actively engaged when I am teaching. One way to achieve this is with the on-line program Nearpod. This program allows me to present information to all the students simultaneously and each student can respond, which creates a totally engaging classroom for all students. This program allows me to differentiate instruction for each student and give me immediate feedback on his or her understanding.

What will be done with my students

As I am the technology instructor I plan on utilizing lessons developed by Common Sense Media specifically for Nearpod across all grade levels in the area of Digital Safety. These lessons integrate the use of polls, quizzes, collaboration, and open ended discussion questions. As students submit their responses, I will have a quick understanding of the students’ understanding. These lessons can be followed up with a technology project to demonstrate their learning.
In addition, Nearpod can be utilized to check for understanding on other topics covered in class, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher or Coding. I would also use this tool to introduce research topics that are to be utilized in technology class. These topics would align with each grade levels core curriculum in the area of science and social studies.

Benefits to my students

As a statement from Claire Hirschhorn, Technology Integrator, Yavneh Academy, Paramus, NJ., " I like using digital citizenship lessons that I got from Nearpod. They allow my students to be fully engaged in a topic that is normally dry and uninteresting."

In the past I have utilized the digital citizenship lessons and the students were actively engaged, I would like to be able to continue to utilize this tool and expand is usage into other areas in my classroom.

Budget Narrative

The proposed grant would buy a one year license for my classroom to the on-line program Nearpod.
