Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

My students used the listening center at ELA, Math and Independent Centers. My school is so fortunate to have a beautiful media center with a variety of listening materials. I used these materials to provide a listening center for my students during ELA, Math and Independent Centers throughout the day.

Due to their language impairment disability, the listening center enhanced my Special Needs Students lives by allowing them to be independent learners throughout their school day, while also helping them improve their listening comprehension and language skills. This included ELA Centers, Math Centers, Independent Centers, Quiet Reading Centers.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide my Special Needs Students in the Modified Curriculum Program at Palmetto Elementary with a new listening center. The Spirit CD/Cassette Listening Center will be used to enhance and support Special Needs Students daily throughout Literacy, Math and Independent Centers.

What will be done with my students

My students will use the listening center at ELA, Math and Independent Centers. My school is so fortunate to have a beautiful media center with a variety of listening materials. I will use these materials to provide a listening center for my students during ELA, Math and Independent Centers throughout the day. I also have found that many of my students are interested in grade level reading material but are not able to independently read the material. The listening center will also enhance my special needs student lives by giving them access to books that they would not be able to read on their own. I have a "quiet reading/buddy reading, Champions for Others" time daily. I would be able to include the listening center in this "quiet reading" time also.

Benefits to my students

Each one of my students has more than one disability. They all have an Intellectual Disability (IND), and the majority of them receive speech and language therapy services daily due to speech and language impairments. This listening center will enhance my Special Needs Students lives by allowing them to be independent learners throughout their school day, while also helping them improve their listening comprehension and language skills. This includes ELA Centers, Math Centers, Independent Centers, Quiet Reading Centers.

Budget Narrative

The cassette/CD player has four-way speakers and is ideal for up to 40 people. The built-in microphone lets you record student progress. The listening center can be safely stored in the foam-line carrying case. The cost to ship the listening center is approximately $18.61. Tax is waived for teachers.
