Identify and investigate the general functions of the major systems of the human body -- digestive, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive, excretory, immune, nervous, and musculoskeletal) with a hands-on approach and engaging laboratory activity.
Students will be able to work collaboratively in groups and study 3 specimens and investigate the species' internal body systems. Students will be able to take control of the learning and exploring and become REAL scientists, studying REAL animals. They will complete a comprehensive laboratory investigation, take real data, and make their own conclusions.
Students who physically experience scientific concepts understand them more deeply and score better on science tests, according to a new UChicago-led study (Uchicago 2015). This is especially important for students who struggle in the language (ELL students).
The budget is for 18 Introductory Dissection Kits for 60 students to participate in the laboratory.
