Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 180

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 interruption of school and classroom classes, we were not able to complete the project during the 2019/2020 school year.  Nonetheless, the project can and will be completed during the 2020/2021 school year. We are hoping to complete the project in the beginning months of the school year and help students learn adult, child and infant CPR and AED training.

The equipment was purchased and received before schools were closed.  Attached are pictures of the equipment. The equipment will give us the opportunity to provide CPR rescue training to 28 students at the same time.  Students will partner-up, forming 14 groups that will allow them to give immediate feedback and learn from each other.  These manikins have a feedback system that will guide students on how to give compression at the correct rate and depth. Students will know whether they are going too fast or too slow and whether they are compressing at the right depth.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to give students in the Medical Academy an opportunity to be prepare during emergency situations. Additionally, these devices will provide students with the knowledge to serve their community and loved-ones through CPR/AED certification.

What will be done with my students

The CPR course is completed through the American Heart Association (AHA). It is a 2 to 3 week process that teaches the students all of the details about CPR, AED and being a first responder. The students will learn Adult, Child and infant rescue CPR, AED and rescue for a chocking victim. The most common requirement for all Medical Professionals is to be CPR/AED certified. As the students learn about the medical field and what it takes to become a medical professional, they will be challenged in a variety of ways. Achieving the CPR/AED certification will give them a sneak peak, and great starting point considering the preparation and requirements of a medical professional.

Benefits to my students

Part of the American Heart Association's main goal is to save lives all across the world through CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) training and education. The idea is to give everyone a fair chance to be prepared to act in emergencies situations. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and most incidents occur at home to loved-ones. The expected outcome is to educate, teach and prepare every student in the class to become CPR/AED certified. It will also serve as an opportunity for teachers and staff to receive the same certification. If everyone learns how to respond to an emergency, the chances of losing a loved-one decrease exponentially. Students are able to provide life saving services to those in a time of desperate need.
