Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 52

Two classes of students couldn't wait to get their hands on the Q-Ball; which led to excitement about sharing their writing.  Students were eager to put details in their writing so they could share out with their peers. It really pumped up students imaginations in their writing.

Not only did students get to "Use Their Voice" with writing, but my homeroom used it a lot with math.  Whether it was sharing steps to solve a problem or just asking questions about different mathematical concepts, students were excited.  Being excited to use the Q-Ball brought out some of the shy, quiet students that sometimes get overpowered by those with louder voices.  Allowing turns with the Q-Ballo truly gave everyone a voice...and that is powerful!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal to give everyone a chance and encourage all students to participate in a fun and exciting way;especially in writing.

What will be done with my students

All students will have a voice and be heard!

Students will use the Qball to share their stories and responses to reading. They will be excited to participate and want to share!

The Qball will be used to address a handful of goals in your classroom. This includes increasing student discussion to building class community. I love the idea of using this learning tool to get students moving throughout the school day. It can also honor the voices of every child in class discussion and help students connect with their peers.

Benefits to my students

The Qball is an effective tool in even small group settings. Studies have shown that a child's cognitive auditory processing is not fully developed until age 15. In order to comprehend speech clearly, they need to hear at more than 2X the level of your average adult! The Qball helps ensure that everyone can be heard clearly, especially students who tend to be shy or soft spoken.

The Qball adds a kinesthetic touch to classroom conversations, Socratic discussions, and moments when a whole or small group of students come together to talk about their learning.

Budget Narrative

The request is for one foam ball microphone to be used with 3 Language Arts Classrooms, one teacher microphone, and one replacement ball (just in case the unthinkable happens). This microphone will get students engaged, moving, and proud to share their writing pieces.
