My goal is to expose the students to see possibilities of jobs in the field of STEAM. They can imagine themselves as a pilot of a drone or of an actual plane. Having the flight academy right here in Immokalee makes this a true reality for these students.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 300

Thank you for your continuous support of my “crazy” ideas for technology class at Eden Park.  The drone was a hit.  It seems we didn’t have enough so we were able to get two more (thanks to Bobcat Boutique, another of your supported projects!)  The kids were learning how to fly the drone and how the elements affect flight.  Unfortunately, the year was cut short, and the fourth quarter is where some more hands on activities were going to take place, so plans will be moved to next school year, where they will be able to take the drones through obstacle courses.  Thank you for supporting and believing in the kids at Eden Park.

I apologize I currently don’t have any pictures, we were not counting on being out of school.  When return and are able to work with the kids I will upload pictures.  There are plenty on Twitter and I know we try to tag you in several so you can see all the great things that are made possible thanks to your generous donations.

Thank you again!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to expose the students to see possibilities of jobs in the field of STEAM. They can imagine themselves as a pilot of a drone or of an actual plane. Having the flight academy right here in Immokalee makes this a true reality for these students.

What will be done with my students

The students will be given challenges to fly the drone. They will collaborate as a team and see what their "flight plan" could be. Determine the best route and consider other factors as well when planning, such as weather and terrain.

Benefits to my students

Any student who has a passion for something, will find the time and effort needed to learn and practice the skills needed. Having a drone will open their eyes to the possibilities of becoming a pilot. In the 21st century piloting a drone is used for search and rescue, to check weather conditions ahead of a storm, and to see the environment among other possibilities, The drone will allow them to see the possibilities.
