Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

I will be able to provide individule Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 100 students. this will ensure that students can provide CPR in a community setting while protecting themselves from communicalbe disease.  I will also provide CPR training in compliance with American Heart Association to 50 of those 100 students. * The other 50 students received CPR training in the 2019-2020 school year but were unable to receive the PPE.

This will be happening in the 2020-2021 school year. This is a delay in the original plane related to Covid 19 and it's affect on the 2019 - 2020 school schedule.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal for this funding money would be to have the necessary equipment to certify all High School Practical Nursing Students in Basic Life Support (BLS).

What will be done with my students

Students will be offered a Basic Life Support class and allowed to practice skills and take the test to obtain certification in Basic Life Support at the school in their own classroom.

Benefits to my students

All of the High School Practical Nursing students are required to complete over 600 clinical nursing hours to gain the skills necessary for program completion. Before students can start their clinical hours they must become BLS certified. I am a certified BLS instructor so I provide the course to these students. In the past year the American Heart Association has made changes to the equipment needed for program compliance. I am now required to use a “compression rate feedback device” for program compliance. These devices help students perfect their BLS skills. I would also like to provide students with a manufactured pocket facemask shield so they can use their new skills in the community setting if needed.

Budget Narrative

The compression rate wristbands come in a pack of 4 for $120. I am requesting 5 packs of 4 to total 20 wrist bands. this would allow students to practice skills in small learning groups - this item is reusable yearly. The face shields are approximately $5 per face mask - this item is kept by the student and not reusable.
