Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

My students LOVE Fluency and Fitness! When I call students to the carpet and simply say "everyone needs to be on a dot", the room explodes with excitement becuase they know it is time for a movement break. Students are engaged while reviewing both phonics and math skills. The variety of content videos allows for us to reinforce current lessons in the classroom while also reviewing and building upon previously taught and learned material. I was even able to give students access to the program during our virtual learning experience so that they could continue to enjoy learning their fundamental skills while also providing physical movement opportunities at home!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of “Fluency and Fitness” is to review essential second grade reading and math topics, while providing a movement break for students.

What will be done with my students

Each “Fluency and Fitness” video focuses on one skill and includes a variety of exercises for students to do every so often. The teacher may choose to engage students during literacy and math blocks, brain breaks, inside recess, morning meetings, or during transitions throughout the day. Regardless, the students will not miss out on valuable instructional time! Students will follow along with animated fitness kids to music as they reinforce grammar, phonics, math addition and subtraction skills.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit from the “Fluency and Fitness” brain breaks in several different ways. The yearly subscription includes video reviews for over sixty literacy and math topics- enough to last the whole year! Our diverse classroom community of learners requires different avenues for understanding information, and this resource would provide an additional outlet for effective classroom learning. All students will be fully engaged while learning together with their peers. As a 21st century classroom, students will be exposed to technology but still reap the benefits of active learning as they burn off that extra energy and move more!

Budget Narrative

An annual subscription to the online program costs $99.00.
