I come to work every day with the goal of creating a learning environment for my students that is engaging, exciting and energetic. I want my students to love learning and cultivate a love for reading so big that they can’t wait to walk through the door every day. I try to do this by allowing students to become active participants in their learning and be part of an interACTIVE classroom.

Goal

I come to work every day with the goal of creating a learning environment for my students that is engaging, exciting and energetic. I want my students to love learning and cultivate a love for reading so big that they can’t wait to walk through the door every day. I try to do this by allowing students to become active participants in their learning and be part of an interACTIVE classroom.

What will be done with my students

I often try to create learning environments that are engaging and interesting through room transformations or special projects. With these requested resources, I would infuse games into the lessons centered around our required content. Imagine taking the classic game of Guess Who? but rather than quizzing to find the selected face, you are quizzing to find prefixes and suffixes that match. Colored Jenga blocks and transform any mundane review lesson when each color is assigned a different task or job students have to complete in related to the tested vocabulary. Engagement is instantly created when students realize they may be getting a “pie” to the face after a round of reviewing complex sentences. These common household games can be easily adapted for use in our classroom with the creation of teacher-made cards and materials in ways that will motivate and challenge all students.

Benefits to my students

Science shows that students learn best when they feel safe and comfortable. They retain and remember information presented to them better when they are feeling positive and encouraged. By infusing games into our curriculum, students will learn without the stress and pressure of feeling behind or below grade level. In addition to learning, students will strengthen their team building and be able to collaborate better with their classmates. Students who come in reading below grade level and feeling stressed in regards to their reading ability will be able to have fun while working on the required grade level skills.

Budget Narrative

These various games will be used to infused gamified learning into my classroom. They will be able to also be used by other teammates for friendly competition and cooperation across the grade level.
