Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 20

Florida’s reading standards are intensive, but thanks to these books we have been able to learn in fun and engaging ways. This collection of 20 books hahelped us with comparing and contrasting characters, tracing the plot of a story, understanding fiction and nonfiction, and much more. The books’ diversity appeals to all my students, and they can each find something relatable with the characters and authors. Because of this, their overall understanding of the content is higher, and they are more engaged in their learning. I have seen a tremendous amount of improvement in their test scores, and their comprehension level continues to climb.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Fulfillment of this grant will help provide new books that tie directly into our standards, encourage diversity, provoke critical thinking, and promote positive social emotional learning.

What will be done with my students

We will use these books throughout the year in our Reading lessons. The texts have been strategically selected because they tie into multiple content standards including: English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Technology, and Math.

Benefits to my students

My students will be exposed to new and innovative activities that tie into each of these texts. We will be able to critically analyze each story, and work collaboratively to compare our thinking.
