Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

My students used Raz-kids during their literacy centers and at home.  The students were able to listen to a story on their reading level, then read the book again on their own and finally take a comprehension quiz at the end.  Our end of year goal for kindergarten is to be reading on a level C.  14 out of 19 students are already reading at a level C or higher (5 students are reading at a Level C , 4 students are reading at a level D, 5 students reading at level E & 5 students reading at level B). Thank you for supporting my kindergarten kiddos becoming successful readers!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide kindergarten students with a fun and engaging computer based program focusing on reading/comprehension for individual student levels.

What will be done with my students

Today, Kindergarten students are required to read on a level C by the end of the school year. In order to truly learn to read, students need independent practice. For my kindergarten students, this independent practice takes place during our Daily Five center rotations. During this block of time, my students will be able to review and master these skills by using the computer based technology of Raz-Kids. Raz-Kids is a great follow up to what the students have learned and practiced at the guided reading table. The program first reads the story to the student, then the student will read the story independently and finally they will have to answer questions about the story they have read. The program also allows for differentiation as each student can be placed in the program according to their guided reading level.

Benefits to my students

While in Daily Five center rotations, kindergarten students will need to be actively engaged in a small group setting, including independent computer based learning. This program will highly benefit our ELL (second language learners; large majority of students) student population with its engaging reinforcement of reading instruction which will improve their comprehension. All of these skills are taught in the regular classroom setting and Raz-Kids will provide them with positive reinforcement of what was taught.

Budget Narrative

This program allows for a full 1 year license. Students will be able to access the program from home and even during the summer. Raz-Kids also has a free app allowing access on all devices.
