Students as young as kindergarten need to have a deep understanding of Florida standards in reading, writing and math. They need to be able to respond to text-dependent questions and show a deep understanding of the text and be able to make inferences. The new math program requires anchor charts to display content. By providing anchor charts and modeling every day and posting these charts around the room gives students a much-needed resource that helps them deeper their learning. it is going to be important during COVID-19 for students to have large and bright resources to see around the room. As they can not move closer to the charts. I need large wall-size post-it notes so students can strengthen their understanding of language-arts and math concepts.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

The students were very excited and engaged by the large post-it anchor charts around the room. They used them in all subject areas and loved brainstorming ideas for the charts. A favorite chart that has stayed up for months was the “What makes a good story?” chart. The students use it daily to check and make sure the story they are writing hits all the criteria. Another set of important charts were the math anchor charts. Student referred to them while working independently. The most favorite chart is our star patriot poster. The students all contribute to creating a personal poster for our star patriot leader of the week and they work hard to get one made for them.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

By showing students how to find answers to higher-level questions they can improve their ability to respond to questions on assessments. By modeling and providing samples of standards-based skills around the room students can improve and have a greater chance of success. These charts provide much-needed support to higher-level thinking and detailed writing.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of using large charts for modeling, motivation, and response is amazing. The students love to add items to the writing anchor charts Students use the charts to prove their understanding as we reading like detectives and write like reporters and are mathematicians!
