Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

The goal of the collaborative art project was for 4th graders-however, 5th graders benefitted from the projects as well.  The children were able to see the magic that happens when they work together in groups to create art. During Art Club before school 4th and 5th grade students came up with a collaborative design “BELIEVE” and created each letter using clay. Once the letters were put on the wood forms, they learned the technique of "mosaic" to create 7 panels to be place on the wall of the school as a permanent art installation. The students were involved with all of the decisions and process of designing, creating, and the installation of the murals. The most impactful outcome was that the students continued the mosaic mural project. The students collected and sorted recyclable plastic bottle caps. They used the found materials to create collaborative murals. The students were able to feel/inspire other students to create together and make 12 additional murals to represent their legacy. Murals are an artistic dialogue serving to provoke and inspire present and future student populations. Murals speak to school bodies.

Benefits to my students

Murals are a Form of Communication. Art projects come and go. Murals are here to stay. They are a legacy, a means for students, staff, and stakeholders to communicate from generation to generation.
