The curiosity, creativity, and self-awareness fostered through the Seacrest Arts programs prepare students to fearlessly adapt and flourish in their rapidly-shifting world. By prioritizing process over results and discovery above output, students learn to take risks and see opportunities where problems once existed. Learning these skills will prepare them to be invaluable collaborators in crafting our future world. Having a tool like this commercial printer in the art studio, students will be able to bring their imagination to life. Our goal is to have all students be able to bring their constructed objects out of the computer screen and into the real, physical world. This will allow the students to get hands-on experience to inspect, analyze, and physically manipulate their creation.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 200

The Epson SureColor P8000 large format printer has been a remarkable addition to the media and design laboratory at Seacrest Country Day School. Occupying a prominent place in the lab, the printer, code-named “EVE,” has provided lower to upper school students with a professional-quality tool to produce and print their designs. The printer’s first big test was a class project for Seacrest’s annual fundraising gala. Our Upper School Digital Design students created space-themed posters to showcase and sell. The class printed nearly 20 posters and raised more than $2,000 dollars for the school. This printer not only provides exceptional opportunities for student growth and learning but also provides a bridge to endless creative possibilities beyond the classroom.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

-Photographers will be able to print out digital images to prepare for an upcoming exhibition.
-Digital artists will be able to take their concepts from the Adobe creative cloud and bring them to the physical world.
-Traditional artists will have the opportunity to import their drawings and paintings into digital works and then print them out to scale. After they are printed, they will be able to work on top as a mixed media project.
-Architects and interior designers will be able to print their designs out to prepare for upcoming presentations to showcase their ideas to the world.
-All students will be able to understand how important it is to respect and run regular maintenance on the studio equipment to ensure peak performance throughout the year.
-Illustrators will have the chance to showcase anywhere from their character concepts to their storyboard illustrations.

Benefits to my students

Today’s high-resolution digital cameras allow any photo enthusiast to potentially print their images up to billboard size. This was something that was once purely the preserve of professionals able to spend 20K on a camera. Seacrest now has the upgraded technology in regards to the digital cameras and Ipads, but now we can take it to the next level with this printer. This printer allows us to wirelessly print our designs within seconds right from our Ipads or computers.

-Middle and upper school students will be able to print out their photography, digital artwork, architectural renderings, and interior design concepts that were designed in the studio and media arts courses.
-Students will be able to explore the business of art by printing posters and banners for upcoming school events.
-The entire Seacrest campus, from the lower school to upper school, all will benefit from this printer. There will be more artwork displayed throughout the hallways and posters will act as a means of communication for parents and visitors to see what Seacrest has to offer.

Budget Narrative

Art is no longer confined to paintings and sculptures. Over the past decade or so, many creatives have decided to go digital. Whether you’re a graphic designer, digital painter, or you hand-create art before scanning it into your computer, the chances are that you’ll want to print your work on a fairly regular basis. Seacrest will be able to print out large flyers, posters, and even brochures to the local community to keep the Naples area involved with what is happening on campus.
