Original Grant Overview

Goal

To create 30 bucket drum sets for student instruction and performance.

What will be done with my students

Utilizing 5 gallon buckets, from the local hardware store, students will be making music, practicing the steady beat, expanding their rhythm skills and rhythm vocabulary.
Younger students would use the buckets with drumsticks to learn the fundamentals of rhythm and playing the drums. Older students will enhance instruction with the addition of Remo Rhythm Lids. The lids are specifically designed to fit on the 5 gallon buckets and are comprised of three different tonalities; bright, medium, and dark, to add variety to the experience. The buckets, along with the Remo Rhythm Lids would be a highlight of a performance.

Benefits to my students

Bucket Drumming Benefits

Relieves stress: Bucket drumming is fun and can change your mood

Increases academic performance: Numerous connections with rhythm and math!

Boost brain power: You have to think differently and utilize multiple parts of your body to play.

Develops confidence: To play well, drummers have to rehearse and be confident.

Play new instruments and styles: This will be a new experience for most students.

Promotes global citizenship: Thru leaning music from different cultures

Promotes lifelong learning: If this is fun, students will continue with musical pursuits in higher education and beyond.

The younger students would use the buckets as drums, upper elementary students would use the additional drumheads for improved and varied sound quality. Bucket drumming expands the music learning experience as students progress through Elementary School.
