Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 22

Scholastic news has helped me as a teacher in many many. First of all, it has enabled me to give my students grade level text that meets our science and social studies standards. The text is engaging and students love to read it.  It is also nonfiction. Based on my class data, my students need to improve their nonfiction comprehension. Scholastic has provided me with that tool. I started this school year with 23 students all on the virtual platform. Finding material to teach with is challenging. Finding material for virtual students can take hours.  I am so grateful that I was able to use Scholastic with my students. We are now using it for research purposes. Our last writing standard in second grade is using multiple sources for research. My students love using Scholastic. Thank you!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is for each child to learn more about current events, social studies and science while improving their reading skills. Each child will receive their own weekly copy of Scholastic News.

What will be done with my students

My students are currently learning virtually. They will eventually return to the classroom. Scholastic News is wonderful for both virtual and face to face learning. While at home, they will receive an individual Scholastic account to receive their news online, weekly. Once they return to class, they will then get a hard copy. With social distancing, each child will need his/her own copy. Multiple language arts, science and social studies standards will be met by using this amazing resource.

Benefits to my students

Scholastic News is filled with science, social studies and current events all written on the students' reading level. Scholastic News is highly engaging. Once the articles have been read and discussed, written activities will then be used to engage the students even further.

The subscription for the school year is $5.95 per student.
