The goal of STEAM-ing Through Virtual Reality is to expose All my students k-5 to as many virtual field trips as possible then bring in the the Arts of STEAM by providing 3D printing pens where they can draw their experiences from their field trips. How cool would it be to visit The Great Wall of China, or visit The Eiffel Tower, or explore the Constellations of the Milky Way! Then to be able to use a 3D pen to create what they saw and experienced and able to upload and share a post on Twitter and our school website.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 500

While we are still working on this grant the impact has already been a tremendous addition to lives of my students.  They are virtually visiting other countries and places while also getting to visit wonderful places here in the United States that they may never get to visit had it not been for this grant.  Through the use of Nearpod it has opened up their eyes to different cultures and experience beyond where they now live.

In addition, we have integrated the curriculum and now they experience real-world learning. One of their most favorite places was The Great Wall of China and being able to experience it in Virtual Reality where they could move around in 3D to feel like they were actually there.  They were also excited to visit Washington D.C. which brought back some memories of their prior knowledge.

We are still working toward the art aspect of this project of actually using the 3D pens to bring their learning to life. The students will create replicas of the places they visited that will be a 3D version.  We are looking forward to completing this project before school is over.

What will be done with my students

My students will use their laptops and Nearpod to experience field trips that they may NEVER get the opportunity to experience. These field trips will be integrated into their curriculum and the students will be able to increase their learning even more by not only in the classroom but also in the arts. After the students experience their virtual field trips they will then create a 3D replica of something that relates to the field trip.
They will use their engineering skills first by designing, printing, then using the 3D printer to create their project. The students will work together collaboratively in groups in Teams to complete their STEAM projects. with Covid 19 it more important than ever for students to continue to experience fields trips and especially for minority students.
