The goal of First Grade Engineers is to introduce my First and 2nd Graders students to STEM activities and engineering through the use of Cubelet Robots .My goal is to provide STEM activities to equip our students to compete in the global society with the tools necessary to prepare them for the 21st Century starting with our youngest learners. No longer is Coding a luxury but a necessity.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 390

The impact this grant has made to my first and second graders has exceeded my expectations.  They are able to use their critical thinking skills to create their robots and create multiple codes for them to use. They are also able to debug and figure out what needs to be done to fix the program that they wrote for the robot and correct it.  It has been so much fun to see this learning at such an early age.  The impact is understanding coding and being able to implement it as well a new found love for technology and coding.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of First Grade Engineers is to introduce my First and 2nd Graders students to STEM activities and engineering through the use of Cubelet Robots .My goal is to provide STEM activities to equip our students to compete in the global society with the tools necessary to prepare them for the 21st Century starting with our youngest learners. What will be done with my students

I plan to integrate STEM Cubelet Robots and Coding into the first and second grade curriculum.
Cubelets are small robots that looks just like a little cubes that students will put together to build simple robots. It takes very simple commands to more complex commands, Forward, back, turn right and turn left. That's it. Simple. But oh the possibilities are endless and easy to operate and is the perfect tool for also teaching sequencing, estimation, problem-solving. It will take the students to a whole new level of coding. These cubelets are durable coding blocks and are designed to give my younger students the best possible introduction to the world of coding.Initiate, Imagine, Inspire.
Inspire a love of learning through play. Cubelets Robot Blocks make it fast and easy to engage children as young as four in learning by building robots. There’s no wrong way to build with Cubelets, so it is remarkably easy to transform these blocks into brilliant bundles of robotic curiosity.Learn to code with Cubelets Blockly. It’s never been easier to code your own Cubelets robot! Cubelets Blockly is the perfect platform to learn to program your own robots! This simple and powerful visual programming tool gives students full control over their Cubelets robot blocks. They can Create countless new robots and behaviors with the power of code.

Budget Narrative

This grant is for a technology lab for 300 students. The project includes cubelette robots, and iPads to run the programs for First and Second Graders. These STEM materials will be incorporated as students learn to code and program. All these materials will be sustained through the years as they will be an integral part of the First and Second Grade curriculum. I need the newer model iPads to work with the Cubeletes. District requires Air Watch on iPads and I will ask my PTO to cover that cost.
