Our goal is to allow the students of Immokalee to access to 21st century technology. We want to put the ideas of collaboration and creating in the hands of the elementary students at our school. Exposing them to 3D printing will have them using the required 21st century skills of collaboration and problem solving to create solutions for everyday problems.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 400

The Dremel 3D40 printer has been a blessing.  The time it takes to print in 3D is very time consuming,  imagine with all the kids wanting to print their creations.  Having the second printer allows that time to be cut in 1/2 with 2 printers running at the same time, twice as many creations are able to be made.  They have come up with basic desings such as names  and shapes, to elaborate animals with moving parts, to even fidget rings with spinning pieces.  The possibilities are endless with 3D printing.  Now with entrepreneurship coming to elementary the students have yet another machine full of possiblities for the prodcuts that they will market and sell at school.  Thank you for your generous donation that made this possible.  The students and I are extremely grateful to have this technology at our school.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to allow the students of Immokalee to access to 21st century technology. We want to put the ideas of collaboration and creating in the hands of the elementary students at our school. Exposing them to 3D printing will have them using the required 21st century skills of collaboration and problem solving to create solutions for everyday problems.

What will be done with my students

The students of Eden Park will work together to solve a problem by working together in their technology and art classes. They will work in groups to choose a problem to solve, design the solution, and bring it to reality with the 3D printer. The students will use Tinkercad to create their designs, which incorprorate: mathematics, problem solving and collaboration skills. Once the designs are complete they will be printed on the Dremel 3D printer. Print time is between 20 minutes to an hour. We would like this machine so that the students are able to have access to a second machine so we can print as many designs possible. This has been the most engaging activity I have seen with the students. They even work and design from home in hopes that I can print their work.

Benefits to my students

Again the skills required for today, requires students to be problem solvers and collaborate with others. This will allow them to do that and solve a problem to help either the environment or community.
