Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

Nearpod has laways been and will continue to be one of my favorite tools for teaching a lesson in a creative and engaging way. There are lessons already created for every civilization that we study including the Mesopotamian civilizations, ancient India, China, Greece, Rome and the Ealy Americas. World religions and global celebrations are also part of the curriculum and Nearpod has the topics covered! The pictures attached were for the lesson on the Chinese New Year where student learned how expressions of modern culture have beem influenced by the past.  It is very user friendly and I have created my own unique  lessons with a variety of engaging tools and activites easy to access in Nearpod. We were able to virtu ally go to the Egyptian pyramids in Giza, travel down into Ramses' tomb to see the sarcohpagus and hierogyphics on the wall.  Other virtual tours we've taken this year included the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal and the Coloseum just to name a few.  This grant allowed me to have access to more lessons and storage that really made history come alive!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal for this request is to purchase a Nearpod platinum license to be used virtually or in the classroom.

What will be done with my students

Nearpod is one of the most engaging and interactive web-based platform for student learning. Students will be using their devices to participate in a teacher created lesson or one already in the extensive Nearpod library. Lessons can include virtual reality trips to ancient ruins in Rome for example where students "tour" the Colosseum. While there they can reflect on their learning and make meaningful connections by answers formative assessment questions in a game format to get real-time insights on their learning. An informative video or simulation on the history of the monument may be part of the lesson as well as collaborative discussions. I have used Nearpod lessons for years now and students LOVE it!

Benefits to my students

The biggest benefit Nearpod offers is that 100% of my students are actively engaged in learning the concept. Nearpod lessons are interactive and can include a variety of ways to engage and teach. A lesson can include virtual reality tours (my favorite being an ancient history teacher), simulations, videos, classroom collaborations where a question is posed and responses can be shared, formative quizzes to check for understanding and games to assess comprehension. I have been teaching for 28 years and this is hands down one of the best programs that I have ever used. Nearpod can be used virtually, self paced in the classroom or live instruction in the classroom. Last year this was one of the few engaging programs I could use while students were learning virtually from home. It can also be used as a self paced lesson or a live whole group lesson in the classroom. It is so versatile! During the lesson I can get real-time insights into my student's learning and later can use the reports in Nearpod to guide instruction and follow up.
A premium license will allow me to do so much more with Nearpod by unlocking more storage, have more formative assessment tools, access more pre-made interactive videos, activities and lessons.
