Impact to My Classroom

The light table and manipulative kits that were purchased from my grant have been a wonderful addition to my pre-k classroom. All 18 of my students love visiting the "Light Table Center" where they get a chance to explore the large illuminating light surface and use STEM materials to enhance thier science, technology, engineering, and math skills. Students interact cooperatively at the light table daily using hands on materials to develope and practicing skills such as: patterning, sorting, counting, and addition/subtraction. In addition to these math skills, students must work cooperativly while at the light table, therefore, it is a great opportuity for students to continously develop skills such as oral language development/communication and other social sills such as planning, sharing, and turn-taking.

The "Lighting Up Their Creativity in Pre-K" grant has been a huge success this school year, and I look forward to seeing the continous benefit students will receive as these materials are used and loved again and again with my future pre-k students.

Goal

As a teacher, I am constantly searching for new and innovative ways to get all 18 of my Pre-K students excited and engaged in STEM learning. With its soft glow and illuminating colors, the light table and STEM accessories kit are the perfect activities to do so! Through the use of these illuminating materials, students will engage independently and in groups with illuminating materials that will target critical math, science, discovery, and design/engineering concepts. The possibilities for playing and learning with these tools in a pre-k classroom are endless! Students will be excited to choose the innovative light table during center time, and will want to stay and learn for long periods of time in order to watch their hard work shine bright in our Pre-K classroom!

What will be done with my students

All 18 of my pre-k students will get to explore with this innovative light table every day during center time. The large illuminating surface provides an engaging work space for students to build and explore, while ultimately fostering a life-long love for STEM! All of my students will be given the opportunity to enhance their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills both independently and in a group setting through the use of the hands-on transparent manipulative kits, making it a powerhouse of learning! Students will love watching their creativity LIGHT UP our pre-k classroom!

Benefits to my students

The light table and corresponding manipulative kits will provide all of my pre-k students with optimal levels of STEM engagement all year long! Students will get to work on a large illuminating surface to enhance their math skills by sorting, counting and patterning. The translucent manipulative pieces will provide students with the perfect opportunity to explore critical math and science concepts such as counting, sorting by attributes, addition/subtraction and color combinations. Additionally, the peg and pegboard set allows students to plan, design, and create one of a kind illuminating artwork that is guaranteed to shine bright in our Pre-K classroom! By working together in groups to design and create, all of my pre-k students will continuously develop and strengthen their communication and oral langue skills. Additionally, they will learn to work cooperatively with their classmates, all while having fun!

The $652.41 will be used to purchase 1 light table and 3 additional STEAM light table activity sets from the Lakeshore Learning Company.
