Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 140

Nearpod has allowed my students (all of them) to not only "go back in time", but utilize the many services they have to offer.

My World History students have been able to visit various sites in Greece, China, etc.  They have also been able to visit and learn about the Holocaust.

My Civics students have used this to learn about special holidays and some of our civics topics (iCivics has partnered with Nearpod).

It is important for kids to be able to go back in time and visit these historical places.  These visits help them to make sense of what they are learning about!

The use of TeacherPayTeacher has helped my students to bring our topics to life and saves me some time. I have taken ideas that I have gotten from that source and tweaked them to meet the needs of my students and satisify the teaching and learning of the benchmark.  I truly enjoy doing this, as it allows me to be creative, but, not have to reinvent the wheel. Teaching two subjects (World History and Civics) at three levels (Cambridge World History, Cambridge Civics and Regular/ESE/Non-English/Limited Engles Civics) this year has been difficult. These sources helped me and my students tremendously!  I often tweak the ideas to create Breakout Boxes or Escape Rooms. The kids enjoy them and have fun learning!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students in World History will experience ancient civilizations as they "travel" to the ancient world.

What will be done with my students

1.)Nearpod is an online platform that students will experience with teacher direction and with independence. The World History course covers ancient civilizations. Students need to experience the civilizations to help them to better grasp their impact on history. Students will utilize Nearpod to take "journeys" to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece and Rome.

The teacher will tweak the online activities to best meet the needs and standards of the course. The teacher is able to modify the activities to personalize them for the students.

2.) World History Interactive Activities: The teacher will utilize items found on TeachersPayTeachers and/or Teacher's Discovery Social Studies. These items will be tweaked to create hands-on activities, games and projects for the course. (Examples may include: debates, simulations, breakout rooms with puzzles, etc.) Students that interact with their learning through games, projects and art activities gain more understanding. These activities excite students and make them want to learn more!

Benefits to my students

1.) Students will gain understanding and appreciation as they journey to these areas and see the wonders these groups left us. Students will form a deeper appreciation and understanding of the groups.

This platform allows students to take "field trips" to the locations and learn as they discover. History comes to life!

2.) Students will have fun while learning. They will experience the history through games, investigations and art activities. Both engagement and learning/understanding will increase.

I have taught World History for many years. These two sources truly help to make the curriculum "come to life". History is filled with excitement and they help students to really "see" and understand the past.

Engagement is paramount to learning and these allow for variety and creativity in the classroom

Budget Narrative

1.)Nearpod ($349) allows for virtual field trips to ancient wonders. (These can be modified by the teacher and assigned as independent and full-group activities.)
2.)TeachersPayTeachers and/or Teacher's Discovery Social Studies ($100) allows teacher to take existing hands-on ideas and tweak them to meet our standards/benchmarks. (These allow for more creativity and fun, while learning.)
