My goal is to replace our old broken skeleton that is held together with tape and paper clips. A new model will helps students interact with bones and the content to give them a better understanding of how their own skeleton works no matter what language they speak.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 115

Students were able to see see and better understand the bone structures and functions.  Students were able to manipulate the skeleton to see how the bones come together to form joints and how the joints work.  They could easily visualize the different types of joints found in the human body and better understand how the joints work together to make the body move in different ways.  They able to comprehend how the  axial skeleton protects soft vital organs because they form a cage (the ribs) around the organs that you can not live without and comeplte encase the brain for protection.  Students were able to identify and label the different parts of the skeleton including individual bones and joint types.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to replace our old broken skeleton that is held together with tape and paper clips. A new model will helps students interact with bones and the content to give them a better understanding of how their own skeleton works no matter what language they speak.

What will be done with my students

Students will use the model to identify the different bones, types of bones, types of joints, and see how they move.

Benefits to my students

THE GREAT VALUE of using models in instruction is that they enable objects, events, or ideas, whether they be complex or abstract, to be rendered into forms that are either simpler or visually more concrete. As students actively work with models, they are more likely to remember and transfer their learning to new situations. Effective active learning activities increase student knowledge acquisition, content retention, and critical thinking.
Activities that involve models are the most common tools used to incorporate active learning and promote structure visualization, no matter what language a student might speak.

Budget Narrative

The cost includes the skeleton model and taxes. The skeleton does come with a warranty and dust cover.
