Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

Dear Donors,

This was a dream come true grant for my classroom. The SSYRA Jr. Books that were funded for my class are high  interest reading for my third grade class and often difficult to obtain from our school library.

Now that we have our very own set of SSYRA Jr. Books all students have been able to read these books and have lively discusions with their classmates about them.

The learning and on-grade level reading has soared due to this grant, I am so grateful to Champions for Learning and to all the Donors that made this grant a reality for my class.

Thank you,

Mary Pierce

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I want each of my students to be lifelong learners and to acquire the love of reading. The way to do this is to have high interest books at their independent reading level. I want my students to be confident, passionate, fluent readers. I want each of my students to have the gift of travel and imagination at their fingertips through my classroom library.

What will be done with my students

My students love the Sunshine State Young Reader Junior books, but due to high demand often have to wait to check them out of our Media Center. I want to have a set of these high interest books at my student's fingertips to explore and cherish. Daily reading not only helps students to become more confident, but increases their background knowledge and vocabulary.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of reading speaks for itself, students get excited about their education and become more accountable for their learning. Reading is to me the purest form of enjoyment and relaxation, I want this lifelong habit and fundamental joy for each of my students. Students learn background knowledge on a variety of subjects, they have increased vocabulary and have a more rounded educational experience with a greater chance of a successful future.
