Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 30

This grant provided numerous opportunities for our students to show their creativity, build confidence and develop entrepreneurial skills.  This project allowed students of all ability levels to participate in the projects and contribute at their skill level.  Students were able to create using the design space, weed using the tools for the patterns, and using the cricut press to finish up the projects.  We celebrated many special events during the year with tshirts and mugs our class created.  We celebrated our principals during holidays as a way of giving back.   We were even able to use this project as an incentive for student successes in their academic classrooms.  One of the highlights was the student card making business.  This was a huge success for staff at our school who frequently requested our hand made cards.  The students took orders, created the cards, delivered their products in gift bags, kept inventory, and developed invoices for their business.  Our students were so proud of themselves and their customer services skills shined through.  All of this contributed to their self-confidence on the job site and in the classroom.  A huge success and learning impact for our class and school!

What will be done with my students

Last year my grant, IHS Criicuteers, was funded and it was a huge success. I want to bring G.A.T.E. (Greater Achievement Through Empowerment) Cricuteers to GGHS! The students will be taught how to start a mock business and to use their measurement, computer, reading and math skills in a whole new way creating beautiful projects like aprons, mask holders, t-shirts, coffee mugs and greeting cards. .The students will also learn how to market and teach students in general education through our inclusive partners club.

Benefits to my students

Sustaining employment is not easy for people with intellectual disabilities, therefore we emphasis the importance of entrepreneur skills. Through this approach, students are given the opportunity to dream big and put their skills to the test. These lessons provide creativity, self-confidence and life skills needed for their future no matter their career path. Students will be empowered and their self-confidence will soar!
