Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 463

This is my second year having this reward program for student’s GPA. Last year we saw a big increase in student’s GPAs by putting this program with incentives in place. I did not think we would increase as much this year because of that jump. This year we went from the increased number of 401 to 463 students earning a 3.0 or higher GPA. This means 43% of our students have a 3.0 or higher GPA, with no D’s or F’s. The percentage of students attaining this 2 years ago was 27%.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To support the academic success of students who live at or below the poverty line.

What will be done with my students

Students will be rewarded for their GPA each quarter. Students will be rewarded with special privileges (out of uniform day, go to lunch early, etc.) and a quarterly "party". The rewards are given to students with a 3.0 GPA and above. We will give gold, silver, and bronze cards to students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Depending on which level you receive you will get more rewards. At the start of each quarter GPAs will be calculated again and different rewards will start.

Benefits to my students

Last year we saw an increase in students' academic achievement with this program. By the end of the school year we had over 100 more students qualify than we had at the start of the year.

Budget Narrative

All for students earning a 3.0 GPA or Higher:
Quarter 1- Students will be given ice cream at lunch
Quarter 2- Students will be given a school supply attached to a bag of chips/snack.
Quarter 3- Students will have a pizza party with popsicles and games to play in the cafeteria after state testing.
Quarter 4 grades are not out until students go on summer break. Students will be rewarded when they come to school in the fall!
