Goal

The goal of this classroom grant request is to replace some of the older instruments in our inventory that are not in good playing condition and give our students who rely on school-owned instruments a quality instrument to learn and play! 

What will be done with my students

Students will have the opportunity to join or continue in the "Superior" rated GGMS Falcon Band program. Many times, students think they can't be in band unless they can afford their own instrument. With this grant, we can make sure that more students have a chance to participate in music regardless of their ability to rent or purchase an instrument of their own. Students will have the opportunity to build confidence, develop leadership skills and increase their sense of belonging in the GGM band! 

Benefits to my students

Many students rely on school-owned instruments to be able to participate in band. During this challenging time, the percentage of my students who need a school instrument is steadily increasing. It is my belief that music is for EVERYONE and should be available to ALL students, regardless of whether they can afford an instrument. We have several instruments at GGM that have been designated as "not worth repairing" meaning that the cost to have them repaired exceeds the cost of replacing them with a working instrument. This grant would allow me to purchase 10-15 instruments for our program and allow more student to participate without the added financial burden on their families. Cadence Music of Fort Myers has been a wonderful partner in music education with CCPS for many years and is ready and willing to provide us with high quality instruments at rate that will maximize our value for the money. Music is such an important part of our world. The benefits of learning music include enhanced cognitive development, an increased sense of belonging and being a part of something bigger than themselves, and forming close relationships with their peers that often last into high school and beyond! The benefits are endless! 

Budget Narrative

Cadence Music has provided a quote for these instruments at $125 each. Although they are not "brand new" instruments, they are in very good condition and will serve a band student for years to come.
