Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

Students were able to read Charlotte's Web which provides an excellent ability to teach new words to children. Vocabulary is one of the best things to practice while reading this book. Kids learn how to use context clues to figure out the meaning of a new word and listen to the characters as they discuss and use it. It also provided Social-Emotional Learning: An example of good friendship. Everyone wants their child to learn what true friendship, kindness, and love is. The examples shown in this story are beautiful, and perfectly written in a way that children understand. It was fun and engaging for studetns to read together and get to compare to the movie and see how much more detail and depth a story provides.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would love to have classroom book sets that my entire class can each have their own book in front of them to look at and read aloud with.

What will be done with my students

We will use the books to do whole class reads and experience hands on projects that connect the book to different learning objects in the quarter.

The use of Charlotte’s Web as a whole read is a fun way for all students to work on fluency, pronunciation, and comparison. Students will get to read through the story together and create many different projects like campaign posters, life cycle models and compare/contrast webs.

Having an easier read allows students to comprehend the story well and focus on their fluency as they read. Student’s will be able to refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Benefits to my students

As well as this vital element of creating a positive, pleasurable experience, there are many benefits of reading a whole class text:
-Encountering new words and enriching vocabulary – you experience words that would almost never come up in conversation.
-Helps students appreciate the beauty and rhythm of language.

The right book can transform students to be their best.
