Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 120

Dear Champions of Learning Organization,

Our arts program couldn’t have been more thrilled to receive the grant funding for our sound recording & music writing systems in the fall of 2021.  We immediately got to work and purchased keyboards, microphones, mixers, and monitors to create mini recording studios in our STEAM center at Seacrest.  It was exciting to see how the staff and youth used these tools throughout the year.  Below are highlights of a very busy school year.

  • THE WAVE:  Created weekly by our communications office, the wave is a digital newsletter emailed to parents.  With the help of students, these announcements were turned into an audio podcast placed on our youtube channel for download.  The intro/exit song was also created using these new tools.

  • RAP BATTLES:  7th grade learned how to create original hip hop backing tracks using loops, midi, and audio clips.  This project connected cross circularly with their history class as they studied the revolutionary war pitting two historical characters against each other using poetical rhyming.

  • SONGWRITING: 8th grade explored similar methods to our 7th grade but focused on the subject of immigration.  Many of these students created melodic tracks to explore either a fictional character’s impact of immigration or their own experiences of transitioning from one location to another.

  • YAYA PRESENTATION: For YAYA (Young Authors & Young Artists) week at our school, our art team created a full-blown storyline with space leaders and invading aliens which culminated in the youth being the heroes of the day.  Creativity was the central focus of our week, and it kicked off with a presentation created entirely on our new equipment.  Even our youngest students got involved as they became the voices of the adult leaders at the presentation.

Most importantly, the station has allowed our youth to not see recording or creating digital music as out of their grasp.  The potential for future projects is limitless and we are so thankful for your generosity.  We feel blessed and excited to collaborate more with our students as we use these materials to make our school more attractive, our projects more engaging, and our students more excited.

Thank you again from the bottom of our creative souls.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Create two (2) songwriting stations for students to express themselves musically and lyrically.

What will be done with my students

These stations will allow students to work solo and collaboratively to create musical/recorded content for:

Original Songwriting
Hip Hop/Lyrical Backing Tracks
Spoken Word
Film Scoring
Atmospheric soundscapes

Benefits to my students

Combining technology with art is a wonderful way to connect kids to their expressive potential. These songwriting stations will teach students how to capture their unique voices lyrically and musically. Working solo and in collaboration, these stations will elevate core classwork as well as their artistic/technological electives.

Budget Narrative

These workstations will be purchased and added to school-shared workspaces.
