Our goal is to provide each child with a Lego kit. This will include about 200 Lego bricks. Due to continued Covid precautions, each child should have their own manipulatives this year as well, and Legos will give them the opportunity to create, problem-solve, and use their imaginations. This will add to and complete the kits we began last year as there were not enough bricks for each child to create all they wanted.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 32

Students kept their own set of 200 legos and base in their own personal creativity kits. They were able to use them for language arts lessons like making letters of the alphabet, math lessons of counting, adding and subtracting, science, art, and other STEAM lessons of creating, designing, and testing ideas. They created animal habitats, seven habits communities, math word problems, did force and motion testing, created maps, and made many of their own innovations. This class excelled in creativity and problem solving and the whole class reached iReady reading benchmarks. These hands-on materials definitely helped them to achieve these goals!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to provide each child with a Lego kit. This will include about 200 Lego bricks. Due to continued Covid precautions, each child should have their own manipulatives this year as well, and Legos will give them the opportunity to create, problem-solve, and use their imaginations. This will add to and complete the kits we began last year as there were not enough bricks for each child to create all they wanted.

What will be done with my students

In the past students were able to share STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) materials. This year we would like to provide each child with the same opportunity. Students would keep their own set of 200 legos and base in their own personal creativity kits. They would be able to use them for language arts lessons like making letters of the alphabet, math lessons of counting, adding and subtracting, science, art, and other STEAM lessons of creating, designing, and testing ideas.

Benefits to my students

Learning with LEGO helps stretch children’s imaginations and inspires them to create! Legos engage a students' natural curiosity, teaching them without them even realizing it. As they pick them up and figure out how to use them, they use all their senses. LEGOs also introduce kids to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) in a way they can easily relate to and enjoy. Engaging all levels of learners will let them excel at many Florida State curriculum standards. It will also result in the students retaining what they learn and being eager to learn more, setting them up for a lifetime of knowledge while allowing creativity to blossom.

Budget Narrative

These materials can be sanitized and used with kindergarten classes for years to come. Shipping is included in Amazon's price.
