The fifth grade students at Naples Park Elementary have used Pixton throughout the school year for a variety of subject areas. Students have shared their knowledge of science concepts, Leader in Me strategies, and ideas for staying healthy both physically and mentally with classmates using their Pixton created comics. This has been a great resources that has allowed students to communicate their understanding in a creative way. It has also made been an effective way for our spanish-speaking students to share their ideas with their classmates. To share their work, students have communicated with classroom partners, presented to the class, and even gone on the school's morning news to share their work.

Goal

Our goal as teachers is to provide engaging, meaningful educational opportunities for our students. One way to achieve this goal is by utilizing the on-line platform program, Pixton - a comic and story board builder for education. This program can be used in the brick and mortar classroom or an e-learning environment. Pixton will allow us to differentiate instruction for each student and provide individual feedback on their creative and unique projects.

What will be done with my students

As fifth grade teachers, we will utilize Pixton with our three classes, approximately 52 students. Pixton allows teachers and students to construct their own comic strips. There are a variety of comic strip layouts, numerous characters to represent our diversity and background choices for just about every imaginable topic. The creativity achieved by our students will be endless! Students will love creating stories and elaborating on topics we read about in class.

In addition, the students can interact with one another to promote the power of collaborative thinking. Pixton allows students to interact and work together to develop comic stories. It will also give them first-hand experience with creating virtual situations where they can practice appropriate social, emotional behaviors.

Benefits to my students

It has become increasingly important to find ways to engage students and help them become creative thinkers and problem-solvers. As educators, we must also strive to push them to that next level of knowledge. Pixton will provide us with unique opportunities to achieve these important benefits for our students.

The software purcase will provide our grade level will full access to Pixton for the entire school year.
