Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 475

Updating the sound system at Avalon was very much needed and convenient.  The old stereo system had stopped working and we were in need of something newer.

Once I used the Bose speaker with the Ipod touch, I was able to play music in the music classroom without running back and forth to the stereo.  It made it so easy to stop the music from the middle of the room, explain to the students what I was expecting, and then start it again.

The pictures are from first graders acting to the music of, “Peter and the Wolf.”  That is a thirty-minute piece of music that I could stop and start depending on what the students needed.  The sound from the speaker is so much nicer and I can control the volume from the Ipod.

Our sound upgrade has been really helpful to our music room at Avalon!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like provide the students at Avalon Elementary with a quality sound system that we can use in the music room and on our stage in the cafeteria.

What will be done with my students

My proposed sound system is a 360 degree Bose speaker, to be used with an iPod Touch.
1. The iPod Touch would use blue tooth to play the collection of our Collier County Curriculum CDs and other CDs that we have purchased. (I am attempting to not put our music library on my personal phone.)
2. I could use the iPod touch to start and stop the recordings from the middle of the room, where I spend most of my time teaching. (Our 20 year old stereo system stopped working at the end of last year.)
3. The Bose speaker can be used in the music room and be taken to the stage for performances. We could also use it any other place in our school!
4. For the future, any music teacher or even a substitute could use the school iPod to play our board approved curriculum music.

Benefits to my students

My students will be able to hear the music of an orchestra, band, choir, accompaniment or any musical example clearly. During a musical performance, I can be the person to start the music and control the volume instead of relying on another teacher or student to "press the button" twenty feet away from me.
Finally, the students will be able to hear music at appropriate sound levels to create a performance where their parents can hear their beautiful voices!

Budget Narrative

I should be able to get the iPod Touch at a better price through their "Educator Buy" program. I chose the 128 GB capacity because of the volume of curricular recordings we have.
