On behalf of the students and faculty at North Naples Middle School, I would like to thank you for the generous $250.00 grant which funded our new chess club’s United States Foundation Official chess boards and clocks. We were able to provide our students with a weeklong tournament, with two tiers for over 30 students. Our tournament was so successful that we have had many requests to sponsor another before Christmas vacation. Our numbers of students who wish to participate has almost doubled. Students have enjoyed playing chess on the official chess boards as well as using to clocks for timing. Our new chess competition has allowed many students who might otherwise not be active members of our NNMS student body, to be quite active and has shown them much success.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To expose children to the game of chess and promote a life long love of the game.

What will be done with my students

Students will be invited to media center during lunches to participate in chess games and tournaments

Benefits to my students

The game of chess has shown to improve concentration and memory, enhances reading and math skills, fosters logic, critical thinking, and creativity and encourages and rewards hard work.

Would like 10 chess boards for students to be able to use during the lunch time periods.
