English Language Arts standards and curriculum are changing! While change is a great thing, there are some books missing from our ELA library that align with the new curriculum that I would love to have for the students at Gulfview Middle School! I want to build a resource room of books and materials to support our new standards and curriculum.

The FLDOE adoted new curriculum standards this school year. With those new standards came a list of new novels for students to read. By using the money from the grant I was ale to purchase several copes of new novels for all students in grade 6th - 8th at GVMS to ready, enjoy, and enhance their learning! We are so grateful to our donor for providing these new books for our students!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

English Language Arts standards and curriculum are changing! While change is a great thing, there are some books missing from our ELA library that align with the new curriculum that I would love to have for the students at Gulfview Middle School! I want to build a resource room of books and materials to support our new standards and curriculum.

What will be done with my students

The new English standards are meant to prepare students to interpret a variety of texts in a variety of formats. Having sets of these books will make sure that students are exposed to a diverse selection of quality texts. Students will use these books for literature circles and small-group instruction. Students will create projects based on the novels to share with their class. These can include but are not limited to reader’s theaters, story maps, and one-pagers. These culminating projects align with the new curriculum and standards for 6th - 8th grade.

Benefits to my students

The purpose of this grant is intended to help teachers support high-quality reading instruction in their classrooms. There is no resource more important to students’ success than access to high quality and engaging books. Using the funds from your organization will allow me to purchase sets of these texts and have a place to house them. Having these books available will encourage students to have deeper thoughts about literature and provide titles that students can relate to and engage with! Thank you for your consideration in donating these funds to the ELA Department at Gulfview Middle School
