Impact to My Classroom

Thank you for your generous donation to help students master the Florida Science Standards!


As the Science Coach, I have been working with groups of students every Tuesday and Wednesday during their science class period in a small group setting.  These students were chosen because they have a lot of potential, but are not performing at their full potential.  When we began, students had a serious aversion to learning science!  However, by the end of the program, they were begging to meet again.  

 

I tried my best to make learning fun, with interesting games and activities to engage students.  Thanks to your grant, I was also able to create an awesome prize box, where students earned prizes each week by winning games, mastering standards, and improving overall.  

 

We still have a couple of sessions left, but I am already confident this program has made a huge impact on my students, their interest in a STEAM career, and how they will do on their end of the year State of Florida Science Assessment.  Thank you again for your generosity!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Science can be a difficult subject for students to comprehend. Many students wrestle with the vocabulary and lack the motivation to master more challenging concepts. By reaching out, forming study groups, and rewarding struggling students, it will help them experience success and strive toward the next milestone.  

 

What will be done with my students

As a science coach, I will work with struggling students in a small group setting. They will keep track of their progress and earn rewards. With the generous donation from this grant, I will purchase materials to help create games and study resources for students. I will also purchase small prizes and set up a reward system as students progress and hit key milestones in their curriculum.  

 

Benefits to my students

Students will not only master key vocabulary and concepts, but will also develop self-confidence and a stronger determination to succeed in science. The success and positive attention students experience will help them to have a more optimistic attitude toward school in general and can be the difference between losing hope and turning a new leaf.
