Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

The entire 6th, 7th & 8th second semester Art student body-learned about graphic design and the processes that artists use when creating wearable art. Students designed a personal computer generated image. Their personalized images were printed out on common copy paper then colored in with sublimation markers which allow for Science cross content applications regarding heat transformation concepts. Additionally, the students used a heat press to transfer the images to a wearable t-shirt. Wa-la, a personal wearable t-shirt!   The students were able to wear and show off their t-shirts on a free dress day.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Sixth, seventh, and eighth Grade students will create, design, and print their personalized T-shirts to proudly wear and share on special days at school to demonstrate how art connects us to each other, the community, and the world!

What will be done with my students

Students will learn about graphic design and the processes that artists use when creating wearable art. Students will then design a personal (hand drawn or computer generated) image. Students will be encouraged to use “Leader in Me” theme to spread Social, Emotional Learning, and (SEL) messages. Their personalized images will be printed out on common copy paper then colored in with sublimation markers which allow for Science cross content applications regarding heat transformation concepts. Additionally, the students will use a heat press to transfer the images to a wearable T-shirt. Wa-la, a personal wearable t-shirt! FUN Right?

Benefits to my students

Students will learn about careers that are available for creative people including graphic design and print making. They will learn how artists create images that can translate into mass-produced items. Students will understand and experience the power of art by expressing themselves and the endless possibilities of art making will allow students to go places they never thought were attainable.
