Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

Students have been so excited about publishing their writing now that we have ink toner to do so. We have edited and published personal narratives, poetry, opinion essays, etc. Students also are able to print a copy to bring home and share with parents, as well as keep one in class in their writing portfolio. Ink is something that we don't have money for in our grade level budget so we were beyond excited and blessed to be able to use it positively in our classroom this year. Thank you Publix!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to be able to provide our third grade students the ability to publish and share their writing with others in school and at home.

What will be done with my students

Providing our students with ink toner will allow them to, after the editing and revising process, publish their individual stories, classroom collaborations, poetry books, how to books, and so much more. We will print and bind these stories to share with others and keep in our very own classroom library, highlighting a different student author each week. We would also like to use this ink/toner to publish a bi-weekly newsletter that the students work together to publish for our classroom families.

Benefits to my students

The very last step in the writing process is one of the most important ones...Sharing your writing. It benefits all students by reinforcing and supporting reading as well as writing, encourages close examination of texts, allows all students to participate in sharing their writing with others, and demonstrates the conventions of writing-spelling, punctuation, and grammar. One of the biggest benefits of this is to see the excitement in the students when they know that they're working on a writing piece that will be printed, published, and shared with others. Students will also learn to work together to brainstorm, write, edit, and publish a newsletter.
