The headphones have made a huge impact in our second grade classroom. The students love their own pair and they have learned to take responsibility for them. The quality is outstanding. In second grade, reading is the most important tool for success. The students enjoy their technology time and truly enjoy listening to their iReady! Some kids nevccer come to school with headphones and some kids have multiple pairs. The headphones have provided equality among my entire class! The microphone has increased their fluency rate like I have never seen before. Some students have gone from 9 wpm to 68 wpm! It is incredible! Thank you

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal in 2nd grade is to increase fluency, which directly impacts comprehension.

What will be done with my students

Each week the students will read a fluency passage in class with their headphones. The computer records their reading and plays it back to them so they can hear themselves and set flexible goals for improvement.

Benefits to my students

With this technology they not only experience extra engagement and interaction, they get immediate feedback. Allowing a child to hear what they try to fluently read, allows them to reflect on what they hear, and allows them to set specific and meaningful goals. It gives goal setting a more concrete and powerful beginning as well as gives them the ability to actually HEAR their growth over time.
