Impact to My Classroom

Game Time grant has incredibly improved my students phonics skills. With the use of playing games to teach phonics students were able to improve their Iready scores in phonological awareness and phonics. 15 out of 17 students improved their phonics scores from Diagnostic One to Diagnostic Two results. The games helped reinforce and practice skills taught in 2nd grade like vowel teams, digraphs, blends, and short and long vowels. Students built confidence while playing the games and couldn't wait to replay them with their friends. Their favorite games were Splash!

Goal

The goal of this grant is to offer students fun ways to manipulate and sound out words as they learn phonics.

What will be done with my students

The phonics games I have chosen will be used during our reading block and intervention time to help struggling readers learn and sound out words. The games will be used in small group activities and in independent work.

Benefits to my students

The benefit for the students is that learning should be fun! Students will be practicing and reinforcing their phonics skills through games. This will help students enjoy reading and have fun learning new phonics skills.
