Goal

Improved Speed and Accuracy

With this keyboard cover in place, (see attached picture) students will type naturally on their keyboard, but without looking at the keys. By not looking at their keys, our students will increase their typing speed, accuracy, and key recognition. 

What will be done with my students

Students today have been using keyboards since they were toddlers. These covers will allow students to break all the bad habits they picked up along the way and learn to touch type efficiently and more accurately, all while using proper ergonomics.

I teach a semester course in Computer Applications and students begin keyboarding practice within the first few weeks of class. They continue practicing and testing their skills throughout the course.
I expect these covers to last several years.

 

Benefits to my students

Benefits of Keyboarding Correctly:

1. Writing on a laptop/computer will improve a student’s writing skills because the process becomes more fluent as ideas flow freely through the fingertips and onto the screen.

2. Mistakes are easier to correct and re-write and working in drafts is more convenient.

3. Benefits to Students with learning difficulties: Individuals with visual impairments, physical impairments, dyslexia, and other specific learning difficulties often struggle when it comes to writing by hand. Learning how to type can help these students achieve their full potential at school by reinforcing literacy skills.

4. In addition, homework assignments, group work and taking FSA exams are all easier if you touch type. In fact, computer testing is one reason why keyboarding should be considered an essential skill for all students to learn at school. The faster a student can type, the more time they can devote to improving the quality of their response and answering the rest of the exam’s question.

In conclusion these covers will allow a higher percentage of students to learn to type correctly, by allowing them to break the habit of looking at their keyboard while typing.

Each cover is $17.00, currently, orders over 30 receive free shipping. I have 41 seats in my classroom and have ordered 2 extra just in case one breaks or turns up missing. Thank you for the opportunity!
