My main goal is for students with special needs to learn how to cook meals for themselves successfully and independently. I want to give my transition students a chance, like any other student, to learn how to properly cook a meal.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 8

My students learned a lot with the help of this grant money. They learned the following:

how to grocery shop, how to store food correctly, how to use the stove and oven, how to cut their food, how to season certain foods, use appropriate cooking tools and much more. Cooking is a life skill most kids do not get the opportunity to learn. We really utilized the money to buy items the students would cook at home. I wanted  Students got to pick out the meals they wanted to cook and then put it into action. Students learned how to budget the money we had. We cannot thank you enough for the geneorsity of Lipman Farms to help our students at Immokalee High School.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My main goal is for students with special needs to learn how to cook meals for themselves successfully and independently. I want to give my transition students a chance, like any other student, to learn how to properly cook a meal.

What will be done with my students

My students will pick out their food items of their meal choice from Publix and successfully cook a meal (s). Cooking meals throughout the school year is an ongoing, weekly activity. Each week the students will have to decide on their meal of choice. Transition students will cook a variety of meals. For example, one week they can cook their breakfast of choice and another week lunch, dinner, and so forth. Students will work individually and as a team to prepare and cook a meal. The transition program for students with disabilities is about helping young adults with a disability prepare for adulthood.
