Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

Immokalee Middle inducted their first members into the National Junior Honor Society in March!  Throughout the year, our chapter decided to spread kindness and good deeds.  They held a coin drive to help schools that were damaged by Hurricane Ian, and they also designed, created, and dispersed Kindness Rocks throughout the school and community.  Students in NJHS also joined the "IMS EmpowerHouse Tutor Corps" to help with peer tutoring during lunches.

Celebrating the accomplishments of these students at the induction ceremony was special for everyone involved.  Seeing the smiles on the students faces for being recognized for their hard work and dedication was wonderful.  Seeing the pride in their parents’ eyes as they took pictures with their child (and their NJHS certificate) was perfect.  These students exemplify all five pillars of NJHS:  Strong academic scholarship, amazing leadership, outstanding citizenship skills, service to others, and wonderful moral character.  I feel so lucky to be a part of this new tradition at Immokalee Middle School.  I am looking forward to inducting more students next year!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to celebrate our student successes, honor their hard work and achievements, and begin spreading that positivity to our entire campus. My goal for our induction ceremony is to make our students feel as special as I know they are.

What will be done with my students

Our students will be inducted into the new IMS National Junior Honor Society in a special ceremony that includes parents, staff, and mentor students from Immokalee High School. This first group of IMS NJHS students will discuss service projects that will promote positivity, cooperation, and good citizenship across our campus of over 1,500 students.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn about and demonstrate the five main purposes of NJHS: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. The students will carry these five principles with them as they go through high school, college and beyond.
The induction ceremony is a very important part of this process as it sets the stage for a new group of students to be a part of something special. We are hoping that our number of students involved increases each year.

Budget Narrative

The NJHS banner will be displayed at school and at events when the students are doing a service project. The Induction candles and holders are an important part of the induction ceremony as each candle symbolizes one of the five pillars of NJHS (Character, leadership, Scholarship, Service and Citizenship).
The table drape will be on the table where the candles are. Each student will receive an NJHS T-shirt as well as a pin and membership card at the induction ceremony. The banner, table drape and candles and holders will be used for all future NJHS induction ceremonies and/or events.
