When our kick bands came in, both of my classes had a long conversation about responsibility and taking care of things we want to use in our classroom. The students signed a "contract" stating that they would treat their kick bands with respect and would use them appropriately. It has been about 8 months since we have received the kick bands and not one of them has been broken or damaged. The students use the kick bands every day to get energy out and fidget while they are learning. They are free to kick, sway, and bounce their feet on the bands as they suspend between their chair legs. The students don't even notice they are there anymore and simply use them as a way to expend excess energy during instructional time where they have to be seated.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I have many students that need to express excess energy. These Fidget Chair Bands provide students with the ability to utilize a fidget without distracting others or disrupting learning. The goal is to grant a Fidget Chair Band to each student so that they can focus on learning while still being able to move and fidget!

What will be done with my students

Each student will receive a Fidget Chair Band stretched between the first two legs of their chairs. Students will then be able to kick the flexible band while they are sitting. This helps placate the need to move about the room, thus keeping students in their desks while learning is taking place. It allows students to express excess energy while remaining in their seats to receive instruction.

Benefits to my students

Students with ADHD or a lot of energy will benefit from the Fidget Chair Bands the most because there is a constant need for movement. Students feel the need to walk around, stand, or squirm in their seats. These actions typically lead to distracted students and a disruption in learning. With the Fidget Chair Bands, students are able to focus their energy on moving the band while the focus of their attention is on the teacher and instruction. This will then lead to more information being retained, which will have a positive impact on their learning and testing.

Budget Narrative

The Fidget Chair Bands come in a pack of 12. Each pack is $34.99 plus $2.27 in taxes, with a total of $37.26 a pack. In order to accommodate the needs of my entire classroom, I will need 3 packs of the Fidget Chair Bands for a total of $111.78.
