Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 35

The students only had the balls for a very brief time towards the end of the year but it made a huge difference. Students that struggled to focus were able to bounce gently on the balls and get their work done. Students that usually stand in the back of the room during instruction were able to remain at their seats and concentrate better because they were able to get energy out in a non-distracting way.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to provide a way for students to expel excess energy during a lesson without interfering with other students' learning.

What will be done with my students

Students that need an exercise ball will be assigned one for the year. Students will be allowed to sit and gently bounce, sway, or rock on the ball quietly while their attention remains on the lesson. This allows students to subconsciously expel excess energy without disturbing other students around them, focus more on the lesson, and give them good exercise as well.

Benefits to my students

Many of my students this year have ADHD and are constantly looking for ways in which to expel excess energy. The exercise balls provide this outlet for these students that want to learn but struggle to sit still in a chair for 8 hours a day. These exercise balls allow students generate motion while continuing to stay focused on their lesson.

Budget Narrative

I am asking for 10 exercise balls for my classroom to accommodate those students who have excess energy. Each ball is $18.98 each, therefore 10 balls would be $189.80. With tax, the total becomes $202.10.
