Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 30

All students who participated in intervention groups showed growth in reading from the beginning of the year.  As a result of integrating hands-on materials and activities to support phonemic awareness and phonics lessons, students who were struggling to encode and decode grade level words became much more independent in the reading process. The multisensory approach was very successful for these students. See below for gains specific to each grade level group.  The pre and post assessment used to measure student progress was the iReady diagnostic. At this time, 2nd grade has not yet taken their end of the year iReady test.  The data used was from their mid year assessments.  Attached you will find the data report for each grade level.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to help struggling readers in K-2 improve their reading and writing skills.

What will be done with my students

Students participating in the small group intervention activities will use the materials to help them develop the skills needed to be successful in reading and writing. For example, students will work on building words using color coded letter tiles that will allow them to begin to recognize patterns in words which will lead to increased fluency when they begin to read.

Benefits to my students

By having the opportunity to manipulate letters and words with tactile materials, students will improve their reading and writing skills. These materials will help the intervention teacher approach learning foundational skills from a multisensory approach.

Budget Narrative

All $225.68 will be spent on the materials the intervention teacher will use to implement multisensory lessons. Materials will be purchased from Lakeshore Learning and Amazon.
