Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 500

The students at Poinciana Elementary were trilled to see the new turbano drums in the music classroom.  All grade levels (K-5) have been able to create and perform music on the new drums. These drums will be used for multiple years. Here are notable outcomes, due to the drums, this grant funded. 

  • Development of fine and gross motor skills. Decoding the rhythm patten and then traslating the code to the body to perform. 
  • Support academic content. Drummers have to count and play on the indicated beat, reinforcing reading from left to right. This activity ignights multi parts of the brain. 
  • Provides an outlet for students to express themselves. 
  • Drumming increases students' ability to focus and work on impulse control. 
  • Promotes sucess as an individual as well as a contributor to the whole group ensemble. 
  • Builds confidence as patterns increase in difficulty. 
  • General education students are given the opportunity to empathize and assist students with disabilities. 
  • Students with communication difficulties are able to equally participate in the class activity. 
  • Identify and maintain the steady beat, is a foundational skill for musicians. 
  • Students learn to share, patiently take turns, and care for musical instruments. 
  • Pure joy!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide quality, industry standard, drums for the students at Poinciana Elementary School. Drumming is an effective way to teach musical concepts, disguised as having a ton of fun!  

 

What will be done with my students

A classroom, set up with Tubano drums, will automatically create excitement for the music lesson of the day! Drumming promotes student engagement while meeting multiple music standards. Music is a universal language. Drumming in the music classroom, contributes to the reduction of language barriers. Increased quantity of drums will increase student engagement. Music will be created and performed as individuals, small ensembles, and large ensembles. Drumming also promotes the real life skill of teamwork.
 

 

Benefits to my students

1. All students, Kindergarten to 5th grade, will be able to participate in music drumming lessons.
2. Provides a non-competitive, team building experience for all students. Poinciana has several classes with modified curriculum. Related arts is designated as the inclusion time with general education students for the MC classes. Drumming promotes musical activities that are beneficial for all students.
3. Learn musical concepts in a fun and engaging environment.
4. Reading rhythms performed on drums in the music classroom connects and reinforces reading and math concepts.
5. Students who excel at drumming, gain confidence that can be carried over into other aspects of the students' day.
6.The act of drumming is physical and can help students process the stresses of the day.
7. Builds school community

Asking for 2 sets of Remo Tubano drums from West Music. Each set has 3 tunable drums.

Each set is $867.85 and shipping is free.
