Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 50

Thank you! This product has helped my students with social communication difficulties so much. They are able to learn concepts that other students naturally pick up. Along with the explicit teaching of the concept, the students get to watch video models of the right/wrong ways so they can see it in real time. This video modeling makes all the difference. Because of this program, I am able to write better IEP goals and make faster progress on things that transfer to real life.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this project is to provide video modeling for students who have significant needs to learn, practice and improve social communication skills.

What will be done with my students

I work with students who have identified social communication difficulties. I will use this video modeling platform to teach them specific social communication skills that are necessary for everyday conversations with peers and teachers.

Benefits to my students

Video modeling is a research based teaching too that has excellent evidence in teaching social communication skills. The students get to watch concepts be taught through video methods and also get to view correct vs. incorrect ways to communicate. Some examples of concepts taught through this program are perspective taking, learning how to start and stop conversations, learning how to make connected comments to keep conversations going, learning how to ask basic questions to continue conversations, learning what to say out loud vs what to think, and learning how to understand and use nonliteral language in conversations. These types of skills are crucial to several of our students with Autism and social-pragmatic language difficulties. Our students need to be able to engage in conversations with both peers and teachers throughout the school day.
