This program has two goals. The primary goal is to provide students with engaging lessons using technology. As a fifth-grade team, we already create our lessons digitally using PowerPoint slides and this program allows us to enhance our slides and make them interactive for our students. We can connect with our students in a 1:1 classroom environment by using the teacher’s dashboard from our laptops and are able to quickly see what each individual student is thinking throughout the lesson. Furthermore, we can present students work anonymously to use for classroom debates and collaboration on how to find misconceptions and build upon students understanding of the material be taught. Students do not worry as much about having the wrong answer or feel silly in front of their peers because they are learning from each other. The secondary goal is to teach students how to use the program to create their own interactive presentations throughout the school year, which will teach them how to use technology in a productive and meaningful way.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 106

Using the program Pear Deck has added so much engagement and creatively in the 5th grade classrooms at Pinecrest through technology. Our students have continued to excel in Math, Science and ELA by using this program and the teachers are able to see each student's response in real-time, truly adjusting our lessons as needed to best fit the needs of the students right then and there. This program has been a game changer for a true 1:1 classroom andprovides immediate intervention for students who may need it. -Mrs. Cromer

Pear Deck has been a game changer in my classroom. I teach 5th science and language arts and this program has increased student engagement. The program has many ways for students to respond to information and that makes it appealing to them. It is also easy to use especially when PowerPoint presentations can easily be transferred into interactive slides. This program allows me to modify each slide and make it interactive and inviting. I’m also able to collect data on students during the presentation or while I’m away. Based on the students’ results, I can modify instruction. I really enjoy working with this program and I will continue to use it. - Mrs. Gallegos

PearDeck has helped my students in many ways. It has kept them engaged throughout my ELA and Science lessons and I love that it provides instant feedback. I am constantly using formative assessments to help guide my lesson and having that instant feedback allows me to focus on what my students need in the moment. I love how easy it is to take a PPT file and make that into a PearDeck. There have been many instances where I did not get a paper copy that I needed for a lesson, and I was able to quickly make a PearDeck so that my lesson continued without interruption. When using PearDeck, students are more focused on their learning, and they get excited when they see the PearDeck code on the board. They prefer using it over paper copies any day. Overall, I have truly enjoyed using this program this year. - Mrs. Lorenz

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

By creating interactive and meaningful slides, we can engage every student and quickly assess their understanding of the material. The program allows students to annotate, take notes, answer draggable questions, multiple choice questions, written responses, true or false, imbed videos and links as well as drawing slides. We can create slides with audio instruction, descriptions, and examples for my students to hear while they read and respond to interactive questions. Furthermore, since a teacher can see all students’ screens on their own laptop, we can quickly analyze how the class is doing and adapt my lessons quickly! Take a pause, back up, and re-explain. Another, great aspect to this program is the “Flashcard Factory” which transforms the way students engage with academic vocabulary. Students can be paired up digitally to create dynamic and engaging vocabulary terms with illustrations to match. Then, as a class we pick the cards that help the class best remember each term. Students can be academically creative and embrace the challenge of creating classroom vocabulary cards.

Benefits to my students

By using the Pear Deck program to enhance our PowerPoint slides we can support remote and asynchronous work with our students. Control the pace of the lesson and project students work anonymously. Create a wide range of interactive slides as well as drop in questions at the click of a button. Keep students in sync with the class by locking all students’ screens, as well as using a built-in timer that appears on their screens. Furthermore, we can turn the lessons into students paced and provide them the opportunity to move throughout the slides at their own. Provide feedback to individual students during a lesson with Teacher Feedback. Capture and share student progress and leave feedback after the session with Reflect & Review. Add audio to slides as well as a new Beta program for Immersive Reader for added differentiation. Furthermore, as other teachers in the grade level use the program, we can create one lesson and share the interactive lessons to other teachers on the team, as well as share the teacher dashboard of valuable student insight within lessons.
