The goal is to empower the students' pursuit of life-long learning and to inspire them to shape and reinvent their world through making, creating and iterating. The students will use their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to independently or collaboratively build a variety of projects at multiple levels of difficulty. I want to make learning fun and get the students excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)!

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 300

This was a welcome addition to our Makerspaces.  Students quickly tired of the enclosed challenges and started creating their own which were way harder than anything on the activity cards.  We also brought the set out for our parent Turtle Tidbit.  The families reall enjoyed working on challenges together.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to empower the students' pursuit of life-long learning and to inspire them to shape and reinvent their world through making, creating and iterating. The students will use their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to independently or collaboratively build a variety of projects at multiple levels of difficulty. I want to make learning fun and get the students excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)!

What will be done with my students

Special areas, called Makerspaces, will be set up in the media center. These areas will house a variety of STEM projects.
Students will work independently or collaboratively to launch balls towards goal cups with the help of a three-piece adjustable pendulum

Benefits to my students

This hands-on activity set challenges kids to send the included launch balls flying toward goal cups and targets with the help of a three-piece adjustable pendulum.

What seems like a collection of simple tasks will actually challenge each child's engineering, problem solving, and critical thinking skills as they play around with early physics concepts such as force and momentum in search of the ideal solution. In addition to using their brains, kids will also have to make careful use of their muscles-the pendulum in the Pendulonium STEM Challenge is completely kid-powered, and helps build hand-eye coordination and muscle control without the need for extra batteries, springs, or rubber bands. It is a great introduction to the concepts of force and momentum.

Budget Narrative

This kit will be able to be reused over and over again and will serve students for years to come.
