The goal is to empower the students' pursuit of life-long learning and to inspire them to shape and reinvent their world through making, creating and iterating. The students will use their problem-solving, critical thinking and observation skills. I want to make learning fun and get the students excited about science.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

The students absolutely loved this activity!  I paired it with the SSYRA title, Strange Planet, which introduced the beginnings of the scientific process with observation and note taking.

After reading the story, the students were able to "hatch" their own strange creature using the Beaker Creature set.  Their excitement was palpable!

After the creature was removed its "space pod" we put it under the doc cam and made notes on the features we observed like its color, number of eyes etc.

The class was then able to take the creature back to the classroom to become their class pet.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to empower the students' pursuit of life-long learning and to inspire them to shape and reinvent their world through making, creating and iterating. The students will use their problem-solving, critical thinking and observation skills. I want to make learning fun and get the students excited about science.

What will be done with my students

After placing one of two included Reactor Pods within the Super Lab's center chamber, students send water whirling through the tubes with the help of two Hydroplungers, filling the chamber and triggering the amazing reaction.
Once the reaction ends, kids can extract their Beaker Creatures collectibles and start classifying!
The working lab set also comes with the equipment and instructions needed to perform many amazing real-world science experiments inspired by the creatures and their home planets.

Benefits to my students

Students will explore and discover with their peers while learning early science concepts.
These are tools that will help kids build observation and critical thinking skills as well as give them practice working collaboratively to make conclusions.
My hope is to get younger students excited about science.

Budget Narrative

This kit will be able to be reused over and over again and will benefit students for years to come.
